The Point CDC

Hunts Point, Bronx NY
Project Date: 2023

This project highlights THE POINT, a community hub dedicated to youth development & the cultural, economic revitalization of Hunts Point in the South Bronx.

The design proposal centers the intergenerational community of
THE POINT, uplifting Puerto Rican & Haitian diasporas, keeping them connected through cultural gatherings including music & food celebrations.

The proposal includes a vertical garden system, rainwater harvesting,
a rain garden with modular seating and surfaces, which can also be used as instruments in a Parranda.

Role:

  • Design for intergenerational music and food celebrations.

  • Integrate a vertical garden, rainwater harvesting, and a rain garden.

  • Create seating and surfaces that support organizations needs.

  • Uplift Puerto Rican & Haitian diasporas through spatial storytelling.

Interior Proposal

Exterior Proposal

In Hunts Point, flooding is a recurring threat and green spaces for growing food are scarce. My design proposal involves integrating bioswales & rainwater harvesting systems, which aim to address both challenges: managing floodwaters & revitalizing the soil.

The bioswales act as natural filters, capturing & diverting excess water during floods, while the rainwater harvesting system stores water for irrigation. This water is then used to nurture plants in a vertical gardening system, protecting them from flood damage & also providing fresh produce for the community at THE POINT CDC, transforming adversity into abundance.
